Set limits before you start

During a session, a win or loss can make one more round feel reasonable. Decide your limit first, using your actual budget and schedule.

Only use money that remains after essential expenses, savings commitments and debts. Gambling is not an investment and there is no strategy that removes the possibility of losing the amount staked.

Choose a fixed spend limit

Set the maximum total for the whole session. The amount wagered on each bet may be small, but it can add up when you play longer than planned.

  • Use a separate entertainment amount that does not affect bills or savings.
  • Do not borrow, use credit or move money from another purpose.
  • Treat the chosen amount as a ceiling, not a target that must be spent.
  • Do not raise the limit to recover a loss.

Choose a clear time limit

Set a finishing time and use an alarm on your phone or clock. A reminder set in advance is harder to miss than waiting for a natural pause in the game.

Decide what you will do when the alarm rings: close the account session, leave the screen and move to another activity. A specific stop action makes the limit easier to follow.

Recognise early warning signs

Take a complete break when gambling begins to affect mood, finances, sleep, work or relationships. Warning signs can include:

  • chasing a loss with a new deposit;
  • spending more time or money than planned repeatedly;
  • hiding activity from family or friends;
  • borrowing or using essential money;
  • feeling restless, anxious or preoccupied between sessions.
A win does not cancel a warning sign. The safest response to loss of control is to stop, restrict access and seek support rather than try to recover money through more gambling.

Put barriers in place

Use any deposit limit, timeout or self-exclusion control confirmed on the live platform. If those tools are not visible, use the official support route and ask what account restrictions are available. Do not assume a tool exists until the platform confirms it.

Remove saved payment routes, mute promotional messages and ask a trusted person for support. Independent counselling or gambling-harm services can help even before the situation feels like a crisis.

Write a short plan

  1. Maximum amount: a fixed entertainment sum.
  2. Maximum time: a specific finishing time.
  3. Stop signal: the first sign that ends the session immediately.
  4. Break action: what you will do after closing the session.
  5. Support route: the person, service or account control you will use if the limit is hard to follow.
